Marchand and the Wolfpack won last year’s event after holding a two-round lead. Monday, Marchand was one of two players out of the 92-player field to finish with sub-par scores. Marchand and sophomore teammate Lindsay McGetrick, who is competing as an individual and in second place, carded a 4-under 140 and a 3-under 141, respectively.

Marchand opened the day with a 3-under 69 first round and followed that with a 1-under 71 to complete her first day. She had a combined 10 birdies through her first 36 holes. McGetrick also had 10 birdies in her first two rounds of play with rounds of 2-under 70 and 1-under 71.

Sophomore Augusta James is tied for third with a 2-over 144 after carding an opening round 2-under 70. James followed that with a 2-over 74 in the second round of action.

Junior Ana Menendez and sophomore Vivian Tsui are tied for 32nd after each posted two rounds of 4-over 153s. Menendez and Tsui shot identical rounds of 77 and 76 on day one.

Senior Amanda Baker is tied for 43rd with an 11-over 155. Baker shot rounds of 78 and 77 on day one.

Head coach Page Marsh was pleased with her team’s effort on Monday.

“They worked hard all day,” Marsh said. “They gave themselves some good opportunities and made their putts.”

The Wolfpack holds a one-stroke lead over second place Florida International (591). Kansas (+21, 597), Miami (+24, 600) and host Maryland (+25, 601) round out the top five in the team standings.

The final round begins with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
