CHARLESTON, SC Feb. 21, 2013 – A weekend road trip to Mercer and No. 60-ranked Georgia State is up next for the College of Charleston men’s tennis team.
Depending on weather conditions which may cancel the match, the Cougars (2-2) will take on Mercer (1-7) first on Friday, Feb. 22, at the Leroy Peddy Tennis Center at 3 p.m. (ET) in Macon, Ga. The Bears are coming off their first win of the season as they topped Jacksonville State, 4-3, on Feb. 19. CofC is looking to rebound from a 4-3 loss at UNC Charlotte on Feb. 10.
The Cougars will then head to Atlanta, Ga., to face Georgia State (6-3) at the Sharon Lester Tennis Center. CofC look to avenge last year’s 5-2 setback to the Panthers. If inclement weather permits play outdoors, back-up plans are in place to play the match indoors at the Peachtree City Tennis Center.
“We’re excited to have this weekend trip to prepare us for Southern Conference play,” CofC Head Coach Jay Bruner said. “We’re playing Chattanooga and Samford in back-to-back matches next weekend, so these two matches should prepare us well for those. Mercer is a young and prepared team and Georgia State has played a tough schedule and found its way into the rankings. We’ll have to play our best tennis to have a chance this weekend and we’re looking forward to getting out there and competing.”
