WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior forward Keith Rendleman has been named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Co-Player-of-the-Week after two outstanding games against William & Mary and Northeastern.
A 6-8, 220-pound junior from Iron Station, N.C., Rendleman averaged 23.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.0 blocks as the Seahawks lost on the road at W&M and upset first place Northeastern.
“Keith has been very steady all season and we’re extremely pleased that he’s been recognized for his hard work,” said Buzz Peterson, UNCW’s third-year head coach. “We know what we’re going to get from Keith every night on the court. He works hard in practice and that carries over to the games.”
The hustling Rendleman scored 24 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, blocked three shots and made two steals in the 92-86 setback to the Tribe. He followed that up by pouring in a game-high 23 points with 11 boards and four steals in UNCW’s satisfying 73-67 verdict over the Huskies in the annual Homecoming Game at Trask Coliseum.
A 2012 First-Team All-CAA selection, Rendleman made 17-of-25 field goals last week and posted double-doubles in both contests. He has five straight double-doubles and 16 on the season.
Rendleman shared the award with W&M’s Marcus Thornton, who averaged 23.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists for the Tribe. The sophomore guard went 14-of-28 from long distance and converted 20-of-22 at the free throw line in a 2-1 week for W&M.
The Seahawks have four games remaining in the campaign. UNCW next travels to the Ted Constant Center in Norfolk, Va., on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip-off against Old Dominion.
