College of Charleston Cougars Set for Tiger Paw Invitational
CHARLESTON, SC Feb. 7, 2013 - The College of Charleston women’s track & field team will compete in their final meet before the Southern Conference Indoor Championship as they travel to Clemson this weekend for the Tiger Paw Invitational, Feb. 8-9 on the campus of Clemson University.
The Tiger Paw Invitational will be the biggest meet the Cougars have competed in this indoor season as over 1,300 athletes are scheduled to compete.
The meet will get underway on Friday at 2:00 p.m. with the long jump competition. Running events will also start at 2:00 p.m. with the 60-meter dash. Friday will conclude with the last event, the Distance Medley Relay at 6:05 p.m. and pick up again on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with the pole vault.
The Cougars most recently competed in the Gene Anderson Invitational at UNC last weekend.
Sophomore Hayley McMahon finished in second-place in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:19.07. McMahon also raced the mile, where she finished fourth, crossing the finish line in 5:07.21. McMahon’s mile time was the eighth fastest time in school history and her 800 was the 10th fastest in the history of the program.
Freshman Roshani Glover advanced through to finals of the triple jump and finished in third-place with a best jump of 11.42 meters. The mark was tied for sixth best in school history.
“This is another great opportunity for us to go out and compete and work on some race tactics that we will need to be sharp with for the SoCon Championship in two weeks,” CofC head coach Amy Seago said.
The Cougars will see many SoCon schools in the meet, including Georgia Southern, Furman, Wofford, UNCG, Davidson and Western Carolina.
The SoCon Championship will be contested in Winston-Salem, N.C., Feb. 23-24 at the JDL Fast Track Complex.
