PONTE VERDA BEACH, FL Feb. 5, 2013 – The East Carolina men’s golf team fired a 1-over 289 Tuesday in the final round of the SeaBest Invitational to finish the spring-opening event in fourth-place. The Pirates, who carded the lowest team score of the third round, finished with a final tally of 36-over 900 (306-305-289) at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.

Tennessee claimed the team title with a 15-over 879 (300-279-300), finishing four strokes ahead of second-place Texas A&M (289-296-298=883). Coastal Carolina (307-289-302=898) finished two strokes in front of ECU to earn third-place. Winthrop rounded out the top five with a 37-over 901 (297-303-301).

ECU freshman Grayson Murray carded a 2-under 70 Tuesday to move into the top 10 with a sixth-place finish in his first tournament as a Pirate. Murray entered the final round tied for 19th at 10-over, but recorded an eagle and three birdies to shoot his second sub-par round of the tournament.

Junior Eric Brady also fired a 2-under 70 in the final round and finished tied for 14th after beginning the day tied for 38th. Brady carded a 54-hole total of 9-over 225 (78-77-70). He was even through 14 holes Tuesday and then birdied 15 and 16 before paring 17 and 18.

Junior Ryan Eibner finished one stroke behind his classmate, tied for 16th at 10-over 226 (76-78-72). Eibner shot par in round three, birding holes 16 and 18 after standing at 2-over through 15 holes.

Freshman Jacob Hicks tied for 39th at 16-over 232 (82-73-77) and fellow rookie Stephen Lavenets came in tied for 55th at 20-over 236 (82-77-77).

Despite posting a third round 4-over 76, Tennessee’s Rick Lamb claimed individual medalist honors with a 5-under 211 (70-65-76). Lamb finished six strokes in front of Texas A&M’s Greg Yates (72-75=70=217). The Pirates will return to the links Feb. 22 at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship in Humble, Texas.
