COLUMBIA, SC Jan. 26, 2013 – The Cougar swimming & diving teams endured tough competition over the weekend in a meet at South Carolina against the Gamecocks, Queens University and Wingate.
The Cougar men finished in fourth place, while the women picked up a dual meet matchup over Queens, 182-134.
Sophomore Sarah Graif continued her strong swimming from Friday as she won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.93. She also came in sixth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.75).
Freshman Lydia Renn powered through the 1650-yard freestyle for a fourth-place time of 18:01.47.
Junior Sarah Boyle picked up points in both the 100 back and 100 butterfly as she placed second (57.80) in the former and third in the latter (58.07). Boyle also contributed to a fourth-place finish in the 200 medley relay, joining with Taylor Hollingsworth, Corrine Taylor and Graif to touch the wall in1:49.19.
On the men’s side, junior Dave Sherrier took third place in the 200 free (1:42.15) and freshman Alex Wood finished fourth in the 50 free (21.37). Sophomore Pablo Ortiz came in fifth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:11.13.
Charleston finished fourth in the 400 free relay as Wood, Eric Craig, Greg Karel and Sherrier notched a time of 3:08.63. The men’s 200 medley relay team placed sixth as Ortiz, Alonso, Verboncoeur and Karel hit 1:36.95.
College of Charleston will have its final tuneup before the CCSA Championships next weekend at East Carolina.
