Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kick-Off Weekend

The third-seeded Cougars (1-0) will square off against No. 61-ranked and second-seeded Wyoming (1-1) in opening-round action on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. (ET) at host Duke University’s Sheffield Tennis Center in Durham, N.C. The winner or loser will face either No. 3-ranked and top-seeded Duke (1-0) or No. 75-ranked and fourth-seeded Wisconsin (0-0) on Sunday, Jan. 27, in the championship or consolation match.

The Kick-Off Weekend serves as a qualifier for the ITA National Women’s Team Indoor Championship which will be hosted by the University of Virginia on Feb. 8-11 in Charlottesville, Va. CofC is one of 60 of the top women’s teams in the nation to compete in this year’s event.

“We’re preparing for a very talented Wyoming team in the first round of this weekend’s tournament,” CofC Director of Tennis Angelo Anastopoulo said. “We’ll be playing indoors, so Wyoming will probably be favored, but we’ll come out and play our best. Hopefully, we can come out on top and either have a shot against Duke or Wisconsin in the next round.”

Duke leads 4-0 in the all-time series with CofC as the Blue Devils knocked off the Cougars in the first round of last year’s Kick-Off Weekend. They opened the spring season with a 6-1 victory over defending Big South Conference champion Winthrop on Jan. 19.
