Tobs to host USA Baseball Collegiate National Team June 25, 2013
Wilson, NC Jan. 24, 2013 - The Wilson Tobs announced today the addition of a game against the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team to their 2013 home schedule.
The game against the Collegiate National Team on Tuesday, June 25th at Historic Fleming Stadium will mark the Collegiate National Team’s first visit to Wilson, North Carolina and one of the state’s most historic baseball stadiums.
“In the baseball community, serving as host of the Coastal Plain League All-Star Game boosted our organization’s regional visibility,” said Wilson Tobs General Manager Thomas Webb. “Team USA’s planned visit to Historic Fleming Stadium will allow us to increase awareness nationally and internationally. We are thrilled for Tobs fans and the greater Wilson and eastern North Carolina community to be showcasing our nation’s premier baseball players.”
Followed nationally and internationally by numerous print media publications (USA Today, Baseball America), television broadcast outlets (MLB Network, ESPN) and website services (MILB.com), the Collegiate National Team is comprised of the top collegiate baseball players in the country.
The team competes each summer in a schedule of exhibition games across the U.S. and overseas against the world’s top baseball talent. Players who have worn the red, white and blue for Team USA include current Major League Baseball stars Dustin Pedroia, David Price, Stephen Strasburg and former Tob Justin Verlander.
The 2013 squad will be led by TCU’s Jim Schlossnagle. He will be assisted by coaches Tim Esmay, Mike Bianco and Ed Servais. Esmay, Bianco and Servais currently serve as head coaches for the Arizona State, Ole Miss and Creighton baseball teams, respectively.
“We are truly honored and humbled to have our nation’s top amateur baseball team visit Wilson” said Tobs President Greg Suire . “This is a ‘must-see’ event, and undoubtedly June 25, 2013 will go down as one of Wilson’s most historic sporting events.”
The history making contest will be shown live in Wilson on WHIG-TV via Greenlight television. In addition, the game will be streamed live www.usabaseball.com.
Tickets to the historic contest on Tuesday, June 25th will go on sale at the Tobs Fleming Stadium box office Friday, January 25th at 9 a.m.
