Pirates Open Campaign With Three-Straight Weekends At Home

GREENVILLE, NC Jan. 18, 2013 – Season tickets are now on sale for the 2013 East Carolina softball season on www.ECUPirates.com and at the ECU Athletic Ticket Office.

Lifetime rights for a purple chair-back seat behind home plate can be purchased for $3,500 through the “Step Up To The Highest Level Campaign” by contacting the ECU Pirate Club at 252-737-4540. Season tickets for those seat-rights holders are then $30 each.

One-year season tickets for the full 32-game home schedule in the chair-back section are priced at $100 each and limited seats remain. Fans also have the option of priority season tickets in the bleacher sections for $30 each. The deadline for purchases is Wednesday, Jan. 30.

The Pirates begin the season at home at ECU Softball Stadium for the second straight season with the Pirate Classic from Feb. 8-10. East Carolina starts the campaign with Cleveland State at 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 8 before a contest against Ohio later that afternoon. The Pirates are also slated to take on Rider and Towson during the initial three-day tournament.

ECU continues the homestand the following two weekends with the Pirate Clash from Feb. 15-17 and the Pirate Invitational from Feb. 22-24. Among the notable teams coming to visit Greenville in the second and third tournaments are three schools from the BIG EAST in St. John’s (Feb. 15 & Feb. 16), Georgetown (Feb. 16 & 17) and Notre Dame (Feb. 23).

The Pirates also welcome in Conference USA rivals Houston (Mar. 23-24), Tulsa (Apr. 6-7), Memphis (April 20-21) and UCF (May 4-5) for three-game sets throughout the season.

Additionally, ECU has midweek doubleheaders against in-state rivals N.C. State (Mar. 27) and UNC Wilmington (Apr. 3) plus a single game slated against North Carolina (Apr. 17).
The Pirates went 25-28 last season including a mark of 11-12 in league play. ECU returns seven position player starters and both primary pitchers from last season including 18-game winner Sarah Christian.

ECU also added in five newcomers to the roster this season in Casey Alcorn (Hummelstown, Pa.), Kelsi Briggs (Yorba Linda, Calif.), Morgan Eisenga (Escalon, Calif.), Meredith Mitchell (Dunlap, Tenn.) and Mary Beth Smith (Elon, N.C.).

East Carolina has qualified for the NCAA Tournament in two of the last three seasons, while putting together a home record of 52-20 (.722) during that stretch.
