CofC Cougar Softball to Hold Skill Camps for Middle and High Schoolers
CHARLESTON, SC – The College of Charleston softball team is hosting a skills clinic on Sunday, Jan. 27 which will focus on all phases of the game through five different sessions. Each session costs $45 and will focus on one particular skill: pitching, catching, infield, hitting and outfield.
The camp is open to players between the sixth and 12th grades. Campers will be taught by the CofC coaching staff and current players to master the fundamentals and advanced skillsets needed to compete at the collegiate level.
Some of the sessions are limited to a certain number of registrations, so interested parties are encouraged to act immediately.
The pitching and catching camps will happen simultaneously from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The pitching clinic will focus on increasing the effectiveness of the participants’ rise ball, screw ball and changeup. The catching clinic will focus on receiving, plate coverage, blocking, pick-offs, throw downs and pop-ups.
The infield clinic will be from noon until 2 p.m. and will incorporate position-specific drills which can be taken home and practiced independently. The drills will help the players with footwork, positioning, approach, base coverage, agility and more.
The hitting clinic will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and help hitters increase power, productivity and, most importantly, knowledge. Campers will have their swing broken down and reviewed and be taught drills which can be practiced independently.
The final session, the outfield session, will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and teach players the fundamentals and skills involved with being a top-caliber outfielder. The session will teach fielding and catching principles as well as arm strength and accuracy from the grass.
All participants must have taken a physical within the past 12 months and fill out the registration form at the following link.
