ECU Announces Annual Baseball Meet the Pirates Event

Meet the Pirates is scheduled for Feb. 2 at 11 a.m.

GREENVILLE, NC Jan. 9, 2013 - East Carolina University baseball fans will get their first chance to meet the 2013 Pirates up close and personal on Saturday, February 2, as ECU hosts its 13th Annual “Meet the Pirates” luncheon, sponsored by United Healthcare.

Scheduled to start at approximately 11 a.m. at the Murphy Center’s Harvey Banquet Hall, “Meet the Pirates” offers fans a chance to get autographs and photos of the ECU baseball team and eighth-year head coach Billy Godwin, as well as enjoy a catered lunch with the Pirate coaches and players. Pirate baseball play-by-play announcer Darren Headrick will serve as the emcee.

As with tradition at the annual event, Godwin will announce the 10th recipient of the honorary No. 23 jersey, which was the number worn by the late ECU Head Coach Keith LeClair throughout his coaching and playing career. Prior recipients are current ECU Assistant Coach Ben Sanderson (2003), Jamie Paige (2004), Brian Cavanaugh (2005), Adam Witter (2006), Chris Powell (2007), Drew Schieber (2008), Brandon Henderson (2009), current ECU Director of Operations and two-time honoree Austin Homan (2010-11) and Timothy Younger (2011).

A limited number of tickets are available at $10 for adults, $5 for children (17 and under), and $5 for ECU students (with valid One Card) and advance reservations are required. Doors will open for those attending at 10:30 a.m., to allow time for seating and take advantage of the buffet-style meal.

Tickets will go on sale January 9 and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations will be accepted through 5 p.m. on Friday, January 25 (or until sold out). Fans can reserve their seats by ordering through the Online Ticket Center or by calling the Athletic Ticket Office at (252) 737-4500.

After lunch, ECU fans are encouraged to head over to Clark-LeClair Stadium to enjoy a Pirate Baseball intra-squad scrimmage.

The Pirates will open the 2013 campaign at home against Virginia with a first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15. For ticket information, visit the Online Ticket Center.
