Blue v. Durham: Before Brown, There Was Blue

Raleigh, NC – Sixty-one years ago Durham parents won a lawsuit against the city’s school system over equal funding for black and white public schools. That case, Blue v. Durham, helped lead to the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision that declared separate public schools for black and white students unconstitutional.

Eddie Davis, former member of the State Board of Education, past president of the N.C. Association of Educators, and retired public school educator, will talk about the fight for equality in Blue and how it paved the way to Brown during the free program Before Brown, There Was Blue on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 12:10 p.m. at the N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh. The informal lecture will be presented in the Longleaf Room as part of the museum’s History à la Carte series. Bring your lunch; beverages are provided.
