Cougars Sign Two to National Letters of Intent in Early Signing Period
CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston women’s golf coach, Jamie Futrell, announced the signing of two players to National Letters of Intent. They are Laura Funfstuck from Langen, Germany and Victoria Drechsler from Olching, Germany.
“The addition of Laura and Vici along with a strong recruiting class from this past year should make us a very formidable team over the next few years,” Futrell said.
Funfstuck was recently named to the German National Ladies Team and is currently the 15th ranked amateur women’s golfer in Germany.
“I am very pleased to have Laura coming to the College of Charleston,” Futrell said. “She currently is a plus 3 handicap and should be a major impact player for us next year.
Some of her highlights this summer included a third place finish at the German National Girls Championship shooting 71-68-73. She finished fifth at the Harder German Girls Championship shooting 69-70-75. Funfstuck also made the quarterfinals of the German Women’s Match Play Championship.
Drechsler is the teammate of current College of Charleston team member Katharina Boehm at Golf Club Olching. Along with Boehm, Drechsler helped lead Golf Club Olching to a second place finish in the German Team Championships during the 2011 season. She is currently the 27th ranked women’s amateur golfer in Germany.
“Vici is a very talented player who should make an immediate impact to our program,” Futrell said. “She has played very well in some major events this year.”
Drechsler’s 2012 season was highlighted by making the round of 32 at the French International Ladies Junior shooting a low round of 67 in the final round of qualifying for match play.
The Cougars begin the spring season Feb. 10-12 in Sorrento, Fla., for the UCF Challenge.
