Men’s soccer goalkeeper Alex Long has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week. Long played just one half against No. 25 Kentucky on Sunday, but the Gamecock netminder played a stellar 45 minutes in frame, posting a challenging four saves in the fifth Gamecock shutout of the season. Late in the contest Long was challenged with several shots, including some at point-blank range, that he was able to save. With just 11 minutes remaining in the match, Long posted a save on a strike from UK’s Matt Lodge over the crossbar, and another from Lodge from point-blank range just six yards from goal. The anchor of the defense, Long and the Gamecocks played solid the remainder of the match to secure the win.
