Earthcam Shows Baby Giraffe Born at Greenville Zoo!
Greenville, SC – Finally! After days of watching and waiting and anticipating and fretting… it’s here!! Greenville Zoo has a new baby giraffe! The little one was born last night. Autumn, the calf’s mother, did a fantastic job as baby entered the world a little before midnight. At first, she seemed a little hesitant, pushing her nose against it. Like any new mother, Autumn seemed to get startled as soon as the infant tried to move. Speaking from a “human” point of view, I thought the same thing when my babies were born, too; except mine were a little smaller than this one, which weighs approximately 150 healthy pounds.

Several anxiety-filled moments ticked by until the baby made a significant attempt to move; Autumn nudged it with her nose, and then walked away – only to return a few minutes later. This morning, they seem to be bonding quite nicely!
Still not sure what to think of the new baby, Autumn paces back and forth between stalls, periodically stopping to look over the divider to get a peek at it. The last couple of hours, the new little one is actually trying to run. Walter, the baby’s daddy, has looked on inquisitively since the birth.
