Pirates on the list for the third time in three years
NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) has recognized the East Carolina University men’s golf team as a recipient of the 2012 All-Academic Team Award. The Pirates are one of 68 Division I teams recognized for their team grade point average (GPA) above 3.0 this past academic year. The Pirates have been recognized as an All-Academic Team three times during the award’s four-year distribution.
Eight members of the 11 members of the 2011-12 ECU men’s golf team earned a spot on the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll, including recent graduate David Watkins who was recently named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar for the second straight year. ECU was one of four Conference USA men’s golf programs to earn academic team honors from the GCAA.
To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors, a college or university must submit the grade points earned and hours attempted for each player on its official squad list for the academic year. Teams posting a team GPA of 3.0 or better are recognized as an all-academic squad.
The men’s golf team opens up its 2012-13 season on September 15-16 at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate in Chapel Hill, N.C.
