Hammerheads look to continue in-form status
Wilmington, NC – The Wilmington Hammerheads take to the road again as they travel north to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Dayton, Ohio this weekend to take on the Riverhounds and the Dutch Lions. The Hammerheads are scheduled to play the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 22 at Chartiers Valley HS, and the Dayton Dutch Lions at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 23 at Miami Valley South Stadium.
The Hammerheads and the Riverhounds faced off at Legion Stadium once already this season back in April, allowing Wilmington their first win of the 2012 season with a 1-nil victory. The lone goal came from Hammerheads forward Andriy Budnyy in the 45th minute just before the halftime whistle. Neither team was able to find the back of the net during the second half to the match.
Saturday will be the first encounter between the Hammerheads and the Dutch Lions thus far this season. Dayton is the only team Wilmington has yet to play.
After the Hammerheads’ 2-1 win on Friday night over the Richmond Kickers, they have moved into the 4th position in the USL PRO rankings, surpassing Richmond and placing them in the 5th position. The Hammerheads look to come back to Wilmington on Sunday after gaining 6 points over the weekend up north.
The Wilmington Hammerheads will take on the Los Angeles Blues on Saturday, June 30 at their home field. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm at Legion Stadium. The theme for game night is “Military Night,” sponsored by the new Whole Foods Market of Wilmington.
In celebration of the 4th of July and to honor our troops, the Hammerheads will have a large fireworks display after the game in the backfield of Legion Stadium. Therefore, backfield parking will not be available for this game. Come out and join other Hammerhead fans over food, drinks, soccer, and celebrating our great nation.
