Radiance Basden Wins Triple Jump At Tyson Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Feb. 11, 2012 - South Carolina senior Radiance Basden won the triple jump with the No. 7 mark in the nation to lead the Gamecocks in the final day of competition at the Tyson Invitational.

Basden jumped 42’3 ¼ (12.88m) in her third jump of the day to earn her first win of the season. The mark moves her to third in the Gamecock record book and in position to earn her first bid to the NCAA Indoor national championships. Ceci Kryst also competed in the event, taking 17th overall at a season best mark of 38’3 ½ (11.67m).
In the women’s 60-meter hurdle finals, senior Kierre Beckles improved her top time this season to 8.18 to place third overall in the event.
The women’s 4×400-meter relay team of Erika Rucker, Christal Green, Vashti Bandy and Nadonnia Rodriques took fourth overall at a season best 3:37.25. Sophomore Liz Locke improved her 800-meter time to 2:18.21 to place 21st overall to round out the top improvements on the women’s side.
On the men’s side, Chris Royster and Chris Walker both improved their times in the 200-meter dash with Royster placing 13th at 21.50 and Walker placing 46th at 22.25. Chris Maxwell also ran 22.25, taking 45th overall in the event.
Freshman Juan Stenner took 25th in the 800-meter dash at 1:54.69 in what was the fastest 800-meter dash time of the season for the Gamecocks.
