Coach Anhaeuser to attend USL PRO Combine

 

Charleston, SC. – Charleston Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser is in Tampa, FL this weekend attending the 2012 USL PRO Combine presented by Umbro.  The combine features 102 young soccer players looking to earn professional contracts.  The players will participate in four days of intense training, testing and scrimmages.

 

Now in its sixth year, the USL PRO Combine has seen almost 150 players go on to earn professional contracts in USL PRO, Major League Soccer and overseas since it began.  The Charleston Battery has signed several players from the combine including Tom Heinemann (now playing for Columbus Crew), Zach, Prince, Sean Flatley and Mark Wiltse.

 

“Every year we find two or three players at the USL PRO Combine that wee bring into our preseason camp and hopefully we can find another player like Tom Heinemann who we found at the combine three years ago” said Mike Anhaeuser, Battery Head Coach.

 

Coach Anhaeuser will continue his player scouting next weekend as he attends a pro combine in Ventura, Ca in association with Ventura County Fusion.

 

The Charleston Battery kicks off its 2012 pre-season at Blackbaud Stadium Feb 25 – March 3 with the Carolina Challenge Cup featuring Major League Soccer.  The Carolina Challenge Cup is the premier pre-season tournament in the US. Each year the Battery is joined by three teams from Major League Soccer for the round-robin competition. The 2012 edition includes the Chicago Fire, Columbus Crew, D.C. United and the Charleston Battery
