Hudson And Havel Earn CofC Student-Athlete Of The Week Honors

 

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Junior men’s golfer John Duke Hudson (Sonora, Texas) and senior volleyball player Sarah Havel (Carmel, Ind.) earned College of Charleston Student-Athlete of the Week honors sponsored by Piggly Wiggly for the week of Oct. 10.

 

Hudson finished 14th at the Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship Oct. 7-9 in Macon, Ga. Majoring in pre-business administration, Hudson shot rounds of 73-71-74=218 to finish 2-over par for the tournament. This was Hudson’s second consecutive top-20 finish, after he finished 17^th at his last tournament.

 

Havel led the Cougars in blocks as College of Charleston split road contests at Furman and Wofford. The senior education major made six blocks in each match, including three solo blocks in the Cougars’ sweep of Wofford, 3-0. Havel raised her average to 0.97 blocks per set which currently ranks fourth in the Southern Conference. On Wednesday, Havel was named a finalist for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award which honors community service, academic excellence, character and athletic performance.
